In the first days of the week, the weather in the country will be determined by an anticyclone, which will bring cold, relatively calm and mostly sunny weather. On Monday before noon, the clouds will break over Southern Bulgaria, and by the evening - over the northern regions. Isolated snowfalls are possible in Northern Bulgaria in the first half of the day.
On Tuesday, the weather will be sunny throughout the country, with short-term fog possible around large bodies of water in the early hours. The atmosphere will remain calm but frosty in the morning.
On both Monday and Tuesday, minimum temperatures in Northern and Western Bulgaria will drop to around and below minus 10 degrees. Daily temperatures on Monday will be between minus 5 and minus 6 degrees in the northern half of the country, around 0 degrees in Southern Bulgaria. On Tuesday, it will be a little warmer – around zero in the north and between 4–5 degrees in the south.
Mediterranean cyclone brings snow and rain midweek
Cloudiness will increase in the middle of the week due to a Mediterranean cyclone. Snowfall will begin from the southwest on Wednesday afternoon and evening, with more significant amounts expected in the Rila-Rhodope region.
On Thursday before noon, precipitation in Eastern Bulgaria will be mainly rain. Due to the borderline temperatures in the early hours, ice is possible, and more significant rain is expected on the Southern Black Sea Coast.
By the end of the week, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with sparse and localized precipitation, mainly from rain. Temperatures will rise, with daily values ​​between 3 and 8 degrees.
The last week of January will be significantly warmer than the past few icy days. Especially in Southern and Eastern Bulgaria, the cold will weaken, and on some days the maximum temperatures will reach 10–12 degrees.
According to early forecasts, the weather will be dominated by cyclonic activity, with precipitation of rain and snow. Snow will fall in the colder regions of Western Bulgaria, and in the rest of the country - mainly rain. Wetter periods are expected around January 25-26 and January 28-30.
