He unbuckled his belt and placed his hand on mine.

Before I could object, he was already out—confident, steady, like a mature man. I watched him through the windshield, hands shaking, as he walked to the door and knocked firmly.
My father opened the door. Older, grayer, but with the same stern gaze that once made me feel insignificant.
And then something happened that literally took my breath away.
