Cloves and mild oil: your homemade mosquito repellent

What's appealing about this trick is its accessibility. With minimal preparation and a little infusion time, you create a fragrant oil that many people now prefer to conventional repellents.

The list of ingredients

35 ml of baby oil (or failing that, a mild vegetable oil such as almond or olive oil)

6 whole cloves

A small glass container, preferably tinted to protect the mixture from light

The preparation stages

Gently warm the oil over very low heat in a small saucepan. The idea is simply to warm it to help extract the essences, not to bring it to a boil.

Stir in the cloves, remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

Transfer everything into your bottle, close it tightly and store it in a cupboard, away from light, for about ten days.

Remember to gently shake the bottle every two or three days to mix the infusion well.

Once the time has elapsed, filter the oil with a cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove the cloves: your preparation is now ready.

Daily use instructions

Apply a few drops to exposed areas of the body, such as wrists, ankles, or forearms, before going out or in the early evening. The scent diffuses discreetly and forms an olfactory barrier that mosquitoes tend to avoid.

Cautionary advice: As with any new product, test the mixture first on a small area of skin, especially if you have reactive or sensitive skin.
